How to Play and win at Diety Level

This page is dedicated to teaching players who want to learn how to play and win at the seemingly impossible Diety level, with seven enemies, with babarian levels set to raging hordes, and without cheating.

It is not impossible and I have done it many times, with a civilisation rating of above 250%

If you are interested to learn please read on.

Lesson 1 : Building Strategy

Civilisation is about building. So first you have to build. When you play Deity level, it is virtually impossible to conquer cities with your prehistoric armies especially if the enemy city has walls. DON'T try to take over the world with early conquest, you will only leave yourself weak and vunerable to your enemies and to babarian hordes. What you want is to build up a mighty empire.

As soon as your city grows to size 3 (60,000), build a settler, and use this settler to build another city close by, don't irrigate yet.

When your first city grows to size 3-5, build another settler. Use this to irrigate and build roads, but dont over do it by building more than necessary. Irrigate enough for the city and build roads to join to your other city(cities). When this is done, build another city with your settler.

Repeat these steps for all the other cities that you build.

Lesson 2 : Developing your Cities

Because you are playing at the Deity level, your citizens tend to riot a lot in the beginning. Make sure you check with your attitude advisor to see if any of your cities are unhappy, if they are turn men into entertainers.

The first thing you need to build, after building one soldier to defend your city, is a temple. After that build city walls, followed by either a market place or colosseum (depending on whether your citizens are going to riot or not.

Contrary to popular belief, libraries and science is not important in this early stage of the game.

Lesson 3 : Advancements

Advancements you should research

Masonry Monarchy Engineering Republic
Democracy Industralisation Refinery Electronics
Explosives Mass Production Espionage Environmentalism

There are stages in the game where the research of advancement is more important and you should allocate as much of the percentage you are allowed to science. Such a time is from when you discover Industrialisation till you have discovered Mass Production. During this period, you should maximise the percentage you allocate science. At other times, you should set your science percentage at 10%.

Lesson 4 : Wonders

Wonders that you should build in chronological order.

Pyramids

Great Wall

King Richard's Crusade

Michelangelo's Chapel

J.S. Bach Cathedral

Leonardo's Workshop

Darwin's Voyage

Hoover's Dam

Woman's Suffrage

Cure for Cancer

United Nations

Try to build as many Wonders as possible, but these listed here are core Wonders which you should mould your civilisation around. Place more emphasis on Wonders that do not expire. The Great Library is a good wonder to build, though not a necessary one. The Great Wall saves you the trouble of building walls in the early stages. When you build Bach's Cathedral, make sure its built in a coastal city that has access to the major waterways.

Lesson 5 : Diplomacy

Try to ally with as many civilisations as possible early in the game. However don't give them any technology whatever circumstances, and you should try not to exchange technologies as well unless it is a technology that is vital to your cause. Demand for tribute if possible.

Get the other civilisations to attack each other as much as possible, but don't go to war unless they offer you lots of money to do it. At the same time, try not to fight with anyone if possible.

Build many diplomats and spies and use them to steal technologies as well as to subvert cities.

Lesson 6 : How to Conquer the World

You should try as much as possible not to engage any of your enemies in war. And if you are at war with them, don't attack, just sit tight and defend, until you have howitzers.

To be continued....
